Business Logos Share the Story Behind Your Brand
Over the years, companies have released studies, articles and blogs concerning colour theory, font styles, branding and logo design when it comes to print and digital marketing efforts. Colour and font theory suggests that certain colours and font styles can convey key traits about a brand, such as loyalty, professionalism and innovation, but one aspect that is often overlooked, however, is how the actual logo design can share the story behind a brand.
Google holds an integral place in our business and personal lives as the search engine power house has helped us find the answers to some of life’s most important questions. With a simple click of a button, we are exposed to countless facts, statistics, images, blogs, books, articles and more. Over the years our reliance on Google has changed and evolved, but how is that reflected in their logo design?
Google
found its iconic name on September 15th, 1997 when Larry Page and
Sergey Brin decided to name the company after the mathematical term, “googol”
as it described an infinite number. Just in its name alone, Google shares its
story, as the company uses a term that reinforces its purpose and goal; to
provide people with an infinite amount of information and knowledge.
Over
the years, Google’s logo has changed in small increments, from the style of
font to the colours that are used. On September of this year, however, it made
one of its biggest changes yet; announced through a short video and Google
Doodle on the search page.
Google’s
new logo design reinforces Google’s desire to help people learn more about the
world around them. This is made evident in the Google Doodle, when the letters
are hand drawn onto a page in chalk, reminding us of sitting in a school
classroom as we watch a teacher or classmate write on a chalkboard. With their
new launch, Google shared why they made the change to their logo on their blog.
“We think we’ve taken the best of Google
(simple, uncluttered, colorful, friendly), and recast it not just for the
Google of today, but for the Google of the future.”
Google’s
new logo reflects the story behind how it first began, while at the same time
provides a glimpse into its future.
Do
you know of a great brand that reflects its story through their logo?
