Spring Cleaning for your Business

5/13/2014

The flowers are blooming, the trees are blossoming and the weather… is rather confused what season we are in. Regardless, spring is upon us! Although you may have already cleaned out your closet and tidied the car; it’s now time to tackle your business.

Not sure where to even begin? Don’t worry we have our top tips for cleaning out your small business.

Review Your Business Plan

Take the time to review what worked in 2013 and what didn’t. Determine what parts of the plan need modification and which need to be ditched all together. Remember it is important to focus on the bigger picture, where do you want your business to be in 2015? In 2016?

Organize Physical and Online Workspace

Has that stack of paper in the corner of your desk become the Leaning Tower of Pisa? It’s time to review them, if you don’t need them toss them! Its time to clear out the clutter. Having a clean work facility will help you become more efficient and reflect positively to your customers.

The same goes for your online workspace.  Take a look at your documents folder. Are there documents that can be deleted? Removing unnecessary documents from your hard drive will help your computer run faster, making it more efficient for your business.

Update Your Software

We all do it, postpone software updates because they slow down our computers, or may put it out of commission for hours. Those updates are important, generally including security and bug fixes that will protect your business. Take the down time to prepare your systems; you’ll be happy you did.

Renew or Cancel Subscriptions

How many items are in your junk folder? Its time to review those emails that are automatically sent to you and never opened. Decide if they are beneficial to your business or something you should follow up on. If they aren’t, unsubscribe from them and eliminate the clutter in your  in-box.

Back it Up

You should be backing up your systems at least once a week. If it has slipped your mind, hopefully this is a reminder to get back on track. You can use an external hard drive or cloud based service to make sure, in case of technical difficulties, your files are safe.

Revise Passwords

With the Heartbleed bug putting millions of online users vulnerable for password theft, now is a perfect time to refresh your passwords. There are a ton of password generators out there. Protect yourself, your business and your client’s information.
